BASEQ Jam Sessions FAQ
What are the dates, times and venue for BASEQ jams? BASEQ holds Blues jams on the last Sunday of the month on the Deck Bar at the Jubilee Hotel, 470 St. Paul's Terrace, Fortitude Valley. Fine fare is available from the Jube. We start at about 1.00pm. The jam usually goes through till about 5.00pm.
*BASEQ now also runs a jam session at the Dog & Parrot, Robina every Thursday night. The session begins around 7pm and runs until 10pm, with the host band attending for the entire month before bing replaced by a new host band for the next month's jams.
Is there a host band? Yes. The Events Group have been very busy developing our host band program for the BASEQ jams for 2007 and is working on 2008. While we will be confirming host bands on a monthly basis, our great line-up for this year is shown below. Thanks to each of the bands who have hosted or agreed to host a jam.
How are jams organised? If you'd like to jam we ask you to write your name up on the board. The Events Group makes the afternoons work by “mixing and matching” musicians to get the best music and the maximum number of people on stage. Cecil Nunis, Ken Smith and Mike Himbury are kept very busy all afternoon making sure things run smoothly. You currently don’t have to be a BASEQ member to get up at the jams. But we wholeheartedly encourage everyone to join the Association if they are not already involved. BASEQ promotes and networks the blues in our region. Please support us.
Can I join BASEQ at a jam? Most certainly! Please look out for the BASEQ table at the back of the Deck Bar, where we have information about the Association and where you can buy BASEQ merchandise. If you want to chat to someone about BASEQ, or if you'd like to join up on the day, this is where you can start.
Does BASEQ pay host bands? We don't have a door charge for BASEQ jams. And our host bands open the jam sessions for the love of Blues. But we do recognize that they have expenses and so we run a raffle draw each month in order to provide them with a token of our appreciation! Please support them by entering the draw. There's some nice prizes!
Who can come along? Everyone! Our jams this have been very entertaining and we are consistently getting a good crowd at the Jubilee on the last Sunday of the month. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the music or just join in the fun. We look forward to seeing everyone there - musicians, members, friends and families.
