BASEQ News and Announcements
March 2010
President's Pen (adapted from our February edition of The Groove)
We have some very exciting news this month, as you can see from the front page. We are very pleased to report that our Performers of the Year, Jimi Beavis and the 385s played magnificently at the Australian Blues Music Festival at Goulburn. We are very proud that they represented us at the festival. Congratulations to Jimi and his band., who have also just released their first CD "Throwing It All Away". You should hear the CD at the earliest opportunity. Jimi Beavis and the 385s are on good form. We are also very proud of our Vice President, Cath Butler, who managed to come home with two Chain Awards; for New Talent of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year. This is a fantastic achievement and just goes to show that rewards do go to those who put their 150% into what they do. Cath won these awards on the basis of her CD "Dangerous Desires", which was co-written by Chris Harvey. So it's a heartfelt congratulations to Harvey as well as Cath.
In other news we are very pleased to announce that we have a new venue for our jams in the Gold Coast, in the centrally located Broadbeach Tavern. The Broadbeach Tavern is in the Oasis Centre in Broadbeach, which is on the corner of Old Burleigh Road and Charles Avenue. We'll be jamming there every Thursday from 8-12 pm with the first jam to be hosted by the Andrew Baxter Band on the 11th March. Many thanks go to Ken Smith and Andrew Clark for finding us a new venue. Ken reminds jammers to bring their own guitars, amplifiers, drumsticks etc. The host bands will provide the backline and PA. And Ken tells us that the Manager there, Mark, is very much looking forward to hosting our jams.
Finally I am also delighted to announce that BASEQ has established a Marketing Planning Group. The group is being chaired by Chris Donovan who is joined by Desley Done, Steve Done and Ian Delahunty. The Group aims to develop a marketing plan for the Association which amongst other things will look at how we can attract more members in the future. The Group plans to consult widely with members and others and report back to the BASEQ Committee later in the year. We will keep you informed of progress.
All the best
Mike Freeman
(President)
