The President's Pen - adapted for the web from "The Groove Magazine"
August 2008
It’s a Good’un
In the words of the great John lee Hooker, it’s been a “good’un”. - We’ve had and continue to have a great year of jamming at the Dog and Parrot and at the Jubilee. We’ve had two highly successful theme evenings—the Muddy waters Tribute and the very recent Women in Blues Show. This year ain’t over by any means yet and I’m sure the remainder of our year will continue to be a fine exposition of the Blues from BASEQ! We have the Performer of the Year Contest this month and next (see the next page for details). We have the Birthday Fest on the 12th October, and we’ll be announcing what will be a great line up in next month’s magazine. And we will be continuing to have our jams at the Jube and at the Dog and Parrot.
AGM
But we are starting to think about BASEQ for next year - that’s from out Annual General meeting onwards folks. With the August edition of the Groove you should find a nomination form for committee membership. On it we announce that the Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday October 26th. We hope you can make it to the jam that afternoon and to the AGM just before it. We’ll be shouting some light food for those that come to the meeting. Last year we had a good turnout. Let’s see if we can make an even bigger turnout this year. Running an association depends on having a lively, vibrant group of people prepared to be on a committee and make things happen. I have been lucky to serve and have a lot of fun with a great group of committee members this year (as in the past). But we need to keep things going into the future. We have been delighted to see more members get involved in running things this year—that’s a hugely positive step in the right direction. We will all be even more delighted to see more members nominate for committee positions this year. So if you’ve a mind to put your hand up—don’t be shy! Send us the form with no delay.
Rebirth of the Blues in Boundary Street
It’s with pleasure that we can tell BASEQ members who haven’t been there yet to go down to the Music Kafé in Boundary Street, West End. This is what until just recently was the legendary Satchmo’s. With Rick moving on to new things, Fred and friends have now taken over. The Colonel is back with Blues on Monday and Dez is back with Pinks Jam on Thursday. All the best folks and it’s great news for Blues!
